• ABOUT ME

    Dongsheng He (何东升)

the I am a research fellow at Department of Geography, University of Leeds, and at Healthy and Sustainable Places Data Service (HASP), Leeds, UK.

Prior to this, I got my PhD degree in Urban Planning and Design from HKU in 2025. I also obtained my MPhil degree in Architecture and Urban Studies at the University of Cambridge (2020 - 2021), and hold a bachelor's degree in Urban Planning from Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU), China (2015 - 2020).

I am a member of Urban Infrastructure Transition Lab. I also held a visiting researcher position at the Institute of Transportation Studies, Luskin School of Public Affairs at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in 2025.

My research mainly focuses on how urban infrastructure (e.g., metro system, greenway) is provided and its impacts in Asian countries. Leveraging rigorous research design (e.g., quasi-experiment approach), I provide evidence-based implications for transport planning policymaking. My ongoing projects investigate the impacts of broader transport interventions (e.g., transit-oriented development and bike lane improvement) and transport policy (e.g., work from home adoption).

I have co-authored over 10 academic papers. My peer-reviewed publications are featured in urban studies, transportation, and geography journals, including Urban Studies, Landscape and Urban Planning, Land Use Policy, Transportation Research Part D, and Health & Place.
